I’ve just arrived in Kiruna, the northernmost city in Sweden, well above the Arctic Circle. The airport here has a big time-and-temperature screen, and when I got off the plane it was flashing “0 degrees” (Celsius). Also, if I interpreted the sign I saw in the parking lot correctly, there’s a designated section for parking dogsleds. I have never felt so far from home.
I might skip a couple days on the blog – I’m logged in at the public library at the moment, but the weird cheap hostel I’m staying at doesn’t have internet access (even though it does have a huge TV and leather chairs in each room). I’ll head back to Stockholm on Saturday, where I’ll try to catch the Occupy Wall Street satellite protest scheduled there. Till then: stay warm, my sled dogs.
